A new report from UNICEF presents five recommendations for the private sector, governments, and civil society to support UNICEF’s aims to end childhood lead poisoning.
It highlights that the private sector “can promote responsible sourcing and prevent materials entering the market from recyclers who fail to establish controls and processes to protect public health and the environment.”
Dr Steve Binks, Regulatory Affairs Director at the International Lead Association, said: “We welcome the report’s focus on effective stewardship which is very much in line with the guiding principles our industry has established through LeadBattery360°. We look forward to continuing collaborations with civil society and other stakeholders on initiatives designed to reduce inappropriate or dangerous lead recycling practices in low and middle-income countries.”
